About this position
Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is offering a graduate research fellowship in aeronautical engineering at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) program administered for the U.S. Department of Defense.
The fellowship focuses on research related to the electric propulsion of transport aircraft. The project is framed around connecting theory and practice, with specific project matches based on the selected participant’s academic experience and professional interests.
Participants will work under the guidance of a mentor and contribute to research and hands-on activities in several closely related areas of aircraft design and performance, including:
- aircraft systems engineering and systems analysis for integrated design and performance assessment
- design trade studies centered on propulsion–airframe integration and technology selection
- operations trade studies evaluating economic viability and military effectiveness
- analytical prediction of installed propulsion system performance, including hybrid-electric configurations, and related flight-envelope limits
- modeling and simulation of aircraft mission performance across representative missions
AFIT is the Air Force’s graduate school of engineering and management and a center for defense-focused graduate education and research. The appointment is based in Dayton, Ohio, within that research environment.
The appointment is a short-term research fellowship, with potential for renewal depending on the program and project context.
