About this position
Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) is advertising two artistic PhD research fellow positions at the Academy of Fine Art for 2027: one in Contemporary Art and one developed in collaboration with the Academy of Theatre, focused on performing arts practices. The positions sit within KHiO’s PhD Programme in Artistic Research, a practice-based doctoral environment centered on artistic practice, reflection, and the production of new knowledge through art.
The research environment emphasizes artistic research, fine art, performance, and interdisciplinary practice. The Contemporary Art position welcomes work engaging form, materiality, conceptual and socio-political issues, and art’s relationship to society. The second position connects contemporary art with theatre and performance, and is open to applicants working across stage-based, experimental, and interdisciplinary formats.
Applicants should have an established artistic practice, several years of professional experience after an MA or equivalent, and documentation of recognized artistic work or artistic research. A master’s degree in performing or creative arts in the relevant discipline is normally required, though comparable qualifications may be accepted after special assessment. The call explicitly states that it is not aimed at applicants whose main focus is art history, theory, or curatorial practice.
The fellowship is a three-year full-time position with a starting salary of NOK 550,800 per year before tax, plus automatic salary progression. The position is based at Oslo National Academy of the Arts in Oslo, Norway. The new research fellow is expected to start on 2027-10-01.
Applications must be submitted electronically via the Jobbnorge portal. Required attachments include the completed application form, degree documentation, a comprehensive CV, and documentation of up to 10 artistic works or equivalent evidence of artistic practice. All materials must be uploaded as one clearly labeled PDF file, and only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
