About this position

Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) is advertising a three-year full-time artistic PhD research fellowship in Art and Public Space at the Department of Art and Craft in Oslo, Norway.

The position is aimed at internationally oriented artists with an artistic practice and research project focused on the role, methods, and significance of art in relation to public spaces, places, and publics. The call welcomes exploratory projects using site-specific, relational, performative, participatory, temporary, or context-based artistic practices. Projects may examine how art intervenes in, activates, negotiates, or transforms spatial, social, material, and political contexts.

The fellow will be affiliated with the Master’s programme in Art and Public Space and will participate in IN SITU, an artistic research project developed with Oslo Science City and KHiO. The project explores art’s role in developing new public spaces, knowledge environments, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Applicants must normally hold a master’s degree in performing or creative arts in the relevant discipline, and must document recognized artistic work or artistic research. Comparable qualifications may be accepted after special assessment. The application must include a completed form, proof of education/qualifications, a comprehensive CV, and documentation of up to 10 works or equivalent artistic evidence.

The fellowship starts on 01.10.2027. The deadline is 2026-09-01. Salary starts at NOK 550,800 per year before tax, with automatic salary progression. Apply through the Jobbnorge portal and upload all required attachments as one clearly labeled PDF.
