About this position
This postdoctoral position is based at the August Chełkowski Institute of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Silesia in Katowice, and is part of the NCN OPUS 29 project “The One Ring to Rule Them All – How Does Heme Affect Embryonic Development?” led by Prof. Witold Nowak. The role is framed as an assistant professor position in the research staff group and offers one opening in a full-time, fixed-term appointment.
The successful researcher will contribute to interdisciplinary work that bridges physical sciences with biological and biochemical applications. The advert highlights research related to ionic liquids, their characteristics, stability, and solubility in organic and non-organic solvents, together with measurements and data analysis using scanning transitiometry. The project also includes liquid-liquid equilibrium studies using spectroscopic and calorimetric techniques, alongside broader work in biophysics, biotechnology, biochemistry, cell culture, and embryology.
The post is embedded in a research environment that expects active participation in scientific life, including conference participation in Poland and internationally, research dissemination in journals with impact factor, and support for younger researchers. The advert also points to a collaborative setting within the institute, with responsibilities that include research execution, analysis, publication, and organizational duties as part of assigned workload.
Although the project is led by Prof. Nowak, the responsibilities also refer to work carried out as part of the research project led by Mirosław Chorążewski, indicating a broader collaborative context within the research team.

What's required
Minimum PhD in physical sciences or a related discipline (biological sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics), awarded no more than 12 years before employment in the project. The candidate should have recent, high-scoring scientific achievements indexed in Scopus or Web of Science, especially in biophysics, cell biology, biological material imaging, quantitative cell analysis, or physical methods in biological research. English at minimum B2 level is required. Preferred experience includes significant international research activity, applications for external research funding, work with mammalian cell cultures or other in-vitro cellular models, fluorescent and confocal microscopy, live-cell imaging or quantitative image analysis, and use of physical/biophysical methods such as Raman spectroscopy or FTIR. The candidate must have earned the PhD at another institution than the University of Silesia in Katowice, or completed at least a 10-month documented postdoctoral internship outside that university and in another country than the doctoral degree country, and must not receive other remuneration from NCN-funded direct costs or another employer during the project.
