About this position
Nagasaki University’s Advanced Infectious Disease Research Center is recruiting one Assistant Professor or Specially Appointed Researcher in the Viral Immunodynamics Research Field. The appointment will be determined after an assessment of the candidate’s achievements. The position is based in Nagasaki, Japan, at the university’s BSL-4 infectious disease research center.
The Department of Viral Immunodynamics, led by Principal Investigator Takumi Kawasaki, studies immune responses during viral infections, immune-based therapies, and vaccine development. Current research includes protection against viral infection through activation of killer T cells by antigen-presenting cells. Research themes will be shaped around the successful applicant’s experience and interests.
Applicants must hold a doctorate in a relevant life-science discipline, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, science, or agriculture. Experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, and protein purification is required. Prior immunology experience is not essential, while virology experience and an interest in host immune responses are welcomed. Previous work with BSL-4 pathogens is not required, but the appointee will be expected to undertake BSL-4 research and contribute to facility operations after joining.
The role also includes collaborative research development, educational activities, and outreach or social activities. Annual income is estimated at ¥5–7 million, with possible commuting, housing, and family allowances and standard employee insurance coverage. The initial contract is one year, renewable after review, with a six-month probationary period.
Applications must include a CV, achievement list, external-funding record, up to 10 major-paper reprints, work-experience documentation, a statement of aspirations, and up to three referees. Submit electronic documents to [email protected] by December 25, 2026; the deadline may be brought forward if applications are sufficient.
