Wageningen University & Research is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Artificial Intelligence. The position is based in the Laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing, a multidisciplinary group specializing in the study of vegetation and land use dynamics from local to global scales. The successful candidate will advance the science and applications of remote sensing, with a strong focus on integrating AI-based and data-driven methods to extract insights from Earth Observation data. Research areas of interest include land-oriented applications such as agriculture, biodiversity, forestry, urban-rural interface, human-environment systems, and climate change impacts.

The role involves contributing to research, education, and collaboration within a transdisciplinary environment. The candidate will be expected to acquire, lead, and implement innovative research projects, supervise PhD, MSc, and BSc students, and develop and teach courses. The position is embedded within the Academic Career Framework (ACF) at Wageningen University, which emphasizes both individual talent and team collaboration, open science, and high-quality leadership.

Applicants must have a PhD in Remote Sensing, geo-information science, data science, geography, or a related field. Essential qualifications include experience in delivering high-quality education, in-depth knowledge of remote sensing fundamentals, expertise in AI and machine learning for Earth Observation, big data processing, cloud computing, and scientific programming. A track record of peer-reviewed publications, excellent English communication skills (C1 level), and motivation to develop research leadership and attract external funding are required. The position offers a fixed-term, 18-month contract with the possibility of a permanent contract upon positive evaluation. The gross salary ranges from €3,546 to €6,433 per month (full-time, 38 hours/week), with additional benefits such as sabbatical leave, study leave, partially paid parental leave, a year-end bonus, and an excellent pension scheme. International staff may be eligible for a tax exemption on part of their salary for the first five years.
