About this position

The University of Warsaw, Faculty of Physics, Institute of Geophysics, invites applications for two positions as Assistant Professor / Post-Doc in the MAESTRO-14 project, "Free-form optical fibers for information systems." The successful candidates will engage in the design and modeling of advanced optical fibers, contribute to the development of new numerical methods for modeling special free-form fibers, and conduct both experimental and numerical studies of phenomena in these fibers. The research will also involve developing and testing new types of optical fibers for applications in telecommunications, lasers, and sensors.

The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic technology team, young scientists, and students, and to publish research results in reputable scientific journals. Participation in seminars, conferences, and training courses is expected. Employment is temporary and full-time, in accordance with National Science Centre (NCN) regulations, and will last for at least six months.

Applicants must hold a PhD in science or engineering (preferably in physics, mathematics, electronics, or computer science), with the degree obtained no earlier than seven years before the year of employment (extensions possible for parental or medical leave). Candidates should have experience in theoretical or experimental research involving passive, active, specialty, or telecommunication optical fibers, or in modeling linear and nonlinear phenomena, including the use of deep learning methods. Experience in research teams, dissemination of results, and proficiency in MATLAB, Python, PyTorch, or TensorFlow is required. Fluent English is essential. For Assistant Professor applicants, significant scientific achievements, a research plan, and international experience are required. Additional eligibility criteria are set by the NCN and University of Warsaw statutes, including restrictions on prior employment and supervision relationships.
