About this position
The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), the U.S. Department of Defense’s premier research enterprise for infectious diseases, brain health, and performance optimization, is offering a research fellowship within the Office of the Chief Science Officer (OCSO).
This opportunity places the student in a government laboratory environment where biomedical research is conducted to address critical gaps in military medical research. The internship emphasizes hands-on learning across the research process, with opportunities to work on research methodologies, experimental design, project planning from inception to completion, documentation of progress, and communication of scientific findings to diverse audiences.
With mentor guidance, the selected participant will build experience in scientific writing, proposal development, and analysis of biomedical research efforts across research teams. The role is designed to deepen understanding of how biomedical projects are conducted and communicated in a large applied research setting focused on mission-driven science.
WRAIR’s broader research mission includes basic science, applied science, and animal and human subjects research to deliver knowledge, technology, and medical material that support the warfighter. Areas of focus mentioned in the advert include tropical infectious diseases, HIV, battlefield medical care, post-traumatic stress disorders, and performance-related research.
The appointment is based at Silver Spring, Maryland, within the WRAIR/DoD research environment administered through ORISE.
