About this position
The University of Luxembourg's Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the SEDAN group. This position is part of a CORE project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and focuses on advancing research in machine learning and cybersecurity. The main objective is to develop a cybersecurity-oriented telemetry framework that models causal dependencies in microservice-based infrastructures, enabling the identification of complex interdependencies among events generated by applications, services, systems, and network communications.
The project aims to go beyond traditional time-series models by integrating causal inference, probabilistic reasoning, and deep learning, ultimately creating models capable of reasoning under uncertainty. A key aspect of the research involves refining AI-generated causal models using reinforcement learning loops, leveraging large language models to generate logic-based code and iteratively improving these models with real data. The successful candidate will also participate in project management, reporting, and dissemination activities, and will have opportunities to propose and engage in additional projects within the group, particularly in applied machine learning and cybersecurity, including the security of large language models.
The SEDAN group offers a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with close ties to industry and European institutions. The position is a fixed-term, full-time contract for 24 months, based at the Kirchberg Campus in Luxembourg. The annual gross salary is EUR 85,176.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or Telecommunication Engineering, and should have expertise in machine learning, statistics, cybersecurity, programming, and Linux environments. Additional desirable skills include experience with large language models, reinforcement learning, and network/system protocols. Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of French, German, or Luxembourgish is appreciated but not mandatory.
The University of Luxembourg values diversity and inclusion and is committed to gender parity. Applications should be submitted online through the university's HR system, including a CV and contact details for two or three referees. Early applications are encouraged as review will begin upon receipt.
