About this position
The Japan Sport Council is recruiting a contract researcher equivalent to a postdoctoral researcher for the Research Division of Sports Science at the National Institute of Sports Science, part of the High Performance Sport Center in Tokyo, Japan.
The researcher will contribute to the HPSC Infrastructure Enhancement Project Utilizing Advanced Technologies, a Japan Sports Agency commissioned project designed to strengthen the infrastructure for sports medicine and science support. The work focuses primarily on research that improves international athletic competitiveness, especially athlete conditioning. Activities include investigations, research planning, implementation, data analysis and organization, and presentation of results.
The role also involves developing and implementing conditioning methods. The researcher will organize scientific evidence, design evidence-based programs, and support implementation at competition sites. Additional responsibilities include research-project progress management, communication and coordination with stakeholders, and other duties related to the project. Domestic and international travel may be required.
The project aims to create a system capable of providing conditioning support based on sports medicine and sports science knowledge regardless of location or time. It combines research on athletic equipment with support methods using digital and video technologies to promote sustainable improvements in athletic performance. Knowledge generated through the project is expected to contribute to academic publications.
The position is well suited to a sports-science researcher with expertise in sports physiology or sports biochemistry, athlete-focused research, performance support, recovery, training-load monitoring, wearable technology, or related physiological and behavioral domains.
