About this position
CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Aquaculture Genetics is an on-site postdoctoral opportunity based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The role is hosted by CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, and focuses on developing next-generation breeding strategies for aquaculture.
The fellowship sits at the intersection of aquaculture genetics, quantitative genetics, genomics, statistical genetics, data science, and breeding optimisation. The successful candidate will work with a collaborative, multidisciplinary team to build methods and decision-support tools for improving genetic gain, resilience, sustainability, profitability, and genetic diversity across generations.
Research themes include multi-trait and multi-environment prediction, genotype-by-environment-by-management modelling, Look-Ahead Genomic Selection, haplotype stacking, multi-objective optimisation, simulation-based evaluation, and the development of reproducible computational pipelines. The postdoctoral fellow will validate methods using both simulated and real aquaculture datasets and help translate research into practical tools for breeders and industry partners.
This is a 3-year full-time fellowship with a salary of AU$103k–AU$113k per annum plus 15.4% superannuation. It is a career-development role for researchers who have completed a doctorate, or are about to complete one, and who have no more than 3 years of relevant research experience. Applicants should have strong skills in quantitative genetics, genomic prediction, statistical modelling, programming (R, Python, or C++), and analysis of large genomic or biological datasets.
Preferred experience includes multi-objective optimisation, machine learning, Bayesian statistical modelling, stochastic simulation, and climate-resilience modelling. The closing date is 24 November 2026, 11:00pm AEDT. Applications should be submitted online with a CV and cover letter addressing the selection criteria.
