About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a Doctoral (PhD) student position in cellular and molecular immunology within the Laboratory of lymphocyte biology – Team Taras Kreslavskiy. The project sits in the Division of Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, Department of Medicine, Solna, at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) on the Karolinska Solna campus in Stockholm. The environment is described as highly collaborative, international, and focused on cutting-edge immunology research.

The successful candidate will join a project in lymphocyte biology and study fundamental mechanisms governing immune cell fate decisions. The lab’s broader research interests include the specificity, development, and function of innate-like lymphocytes and the regulation of these decisions in humoral immune responses. The work will combine in vivo and in vitro approaches, giving the doctoral student the opportunity to develop experimental skills across immunological and molecular biology methods.

The position is intended for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in the basic principles of immune system function. Responsibilities include planning and conducting experiments, analysing and interpreting data, and presenting findings in a collaborative research environment. Prior wet-lab experience is considered a strong advantage, and familiarity with immunology, flow cytometry, molecular biology, scRNA-seq, or bioinformatic analysis may be beneficial.

Karolinska Institutet offers a doctoral studentship with a contractual salary, an individual research project, supervision, access to elective courses, and opportunities for international exchange. The post is full-time for up to four years. The working language of the group is English, and applicants may submit materials in English or Swedish.

Eligibility: applicants must meet the general doctoral education requirement (master’s degree, at least 240 credits with 60 advanced credits, or equivalent knowledge) and the specific English requirement equivalent to Swedish upper secondary school English B/English 6.

Application deadline: 2026-09-22. Applications are submitted through the Varbi recruitment system and should include a personal letter, CV, degree projects and publications if any, and documents confirming eligibility and relevant experience.

Strong motivation for immune system research is essential; prior wet lab experience is a strong advantage. Knowledge of immunology and experience with flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, scRNA-seq, or bioinformatic analysis are beneficial. Applicants must have good English and communication skills and be able to collaborate effectively and work productively in a team.
