The Europainstitut / Institute for European Global Studies at the University of Basel invites applications for a doctoral position in European Global Studies / Global History, supervised by Professor Corey Ross. The Europainstitut is an interdisciplinary research institute that fosters critical engagement with Europe’s role in global history, focusing on the 18th to 20th centuries. The successful candidate will conduct a doctoral dissertation in history or European Global Studies, contribute to teaching activities within the interdisciplinary Masters Program, and assist with lectures, conferences, public events, and excursions. Active participation in the Institute’s academic and administrative activities is expected, including presenting research at Institute events.

Applicants should hold a Masters degree in history with excellent marks and have either started or intend to start a doctoral dissertation in global history or the history of Europe in global perspective. Candidates with degrees in related fields but extensive training in history may also be considered. The position particularly welcomes those with interests in environmental history, the history of empire, knowledge, and human-nature relations. Strong proficiency in both German and English (written and spoken) is required, along with collegiality, independence, organizational talent, and openness.
