About this position
ETH Zurich is advertising a doctoral position in Experimental Ultrafast Optics and Photonics within the Ultrafast Dynamics Group. The project is part of the newly funded ETH Collaborative Grant Shaping Time-Interfaces with Terahertz Subwavelength Confinement, a collaboration involving the groups of Prof. Steven Johnson, Prof. Giacomo Scalari, and Prof. Alexander Dikopoltsev, with supervision by Prof. Steven Johnson and Dr. Martina Basini.
The research focuses on ultrafast optics, terahertz spectroscopy, nanophotonics, and electromagnetic wave engineering. The goal is to investigate time-varying electromagnetic media and phenomena such as time interfaces, time reflection, and photonic time crystals. The successful candidate will help develop a new experimental platform using optical pump-probe spectroscopy, broadband THz techniques, subwavelength waveguide engineering, advanced optical instrumentation, data analysis, and numerical modelling.
This is a PhD opening at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. The position is fully funded for four years. Applicants should have a Master's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, plus strong experimental motivation, analytical skills, programming experience (Python, MATLAB, or similar), and excellent English. Experience in ultrafast optics or terahertz spectroscopy is helpful but not mandatory.
