About this position
Clausthal University of Technology is offering a doctoral researcher position in the research group Dependable and Autonomous Cyber-physical Systems (DACS) at the Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISSE). The project focuses on software engineering for dependable automated driving systems, combining Autoware, AI-based end-to-end driving approaches, and practical development on real test vehicles.
The role is embedded in a highly applied research environment with direct access to an automated shuttle used as a research and development platform. The successful candidate will work on designing, implementing, testing, and evaluating software architectures, prototypes, and data pipelines for safe and dependable automated driving. The position also includes the transfer of methods to related domains such as autonomous agricultural machinery and unmanned surface vessels.
Research activities include modern software engineering practices such as agile development, model-based development, and CI/CD pipelines, as well as work on the systematic collection, processing, management, and provision of driving and sensor data to support training and validation of AI-based automated driving systems. The position includes publication of research results at national and international conferences.
This is a full-time academic researcher position (TV-L E 13 / EG 13), limited to up to 3 years. The institution emphasizes a collegial, interdisciplinary environment, modern laboratories, simulation environments, flexible working arrangements, and the opportunity to pursue a doctorate in cooperation with national and international research partners and industry.
Applicants should hold a completed Master’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, with excellent to good results. Strong knowledge of software engineering, strong Python and C++ skills, ideally ROS2 experience, AI and neural network experience, and familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools are expected. The role also requires excellent German at C1 level, good English skills, and a valid Category B driving license in Germany.
Applications are accepted online via the TU Clausthal portal until 2026-11-22. Required documents include a CV with grades, degree certificates, a full transcript of records, and internship certificates if applicable. For questions, the contact person listed is Ms. Simone Dahms.
