About this position
Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a fully funded Doctoral student position in High-temperature diagnostics within the Division of Energy Technology. The research group focuses on developing and analyzing sustainable energy systems and conversion technologies for industry and society, with a strong emphasis on experimental and systems research to drive the transition towards carbon-neutral energy and industry.
The doctoral project centers on the development of a new thermal imaging system aimed at improving the efficiency of biomass conversion in power plants. The research combines advanced radiation and CFD modeling, spectrometer and camera-based data, and experimental work at both campus and industrial sites. The group has a proven track record in advancing high-temperature processes for industrial and power generation purposes, offering access to unique experimental facilities.
As a doctoral student, you will design, execute, and analyze experiments, conduct modeling and tool development (using CFD, Matlab, Python), and contribute to both established and novel methodologies. You will take advanced courses within the Graduate school, teach or perform other duties up to 20% of working hours, collaborate with industrial partners and researchers, and communicate your results through conferences, journals, and project meetings.
Applicants must hold a master's degree (at least 240 ECTS credits) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent. Excellent English writing and communication skills are required. Physical presence is mandatory throughout the study period, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date. Chalmers values equality, diversity, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for non-native speakers.
The position is fully funded with a starting salary of 35,725 SEK per month (from May 1, 2026), and includes employee benefits. The appointment is for four years, with the possibility to extend up to five years if teaching duties are undertaken. Chalmers provides a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, with generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare.
