About this position
This doctoral project focuses on developing an affordable optical system for measuring six hormones in urine at home on a daily basis. The work sits at the intersection of biophysics and biotechnology, combining sample preparation, analytical validation and detection-system development.
The student will work within the Hormones Project, which is funded by KTH InspireLab and jointly led by three research leaders at AlbaNova and SciLifeLab. The project aims to move hormone measurement beyond the clinic by enabling everyday, non-invasive monitoring in a home setting.
Research tasks include preparing and characterising urine samples, validating the measurements against established laboratory methods, and designing and testing the optical detection system. The project brings together optical sensing, laboratory analysis and application-driven technology development in a multidisciplinary research environment.
The proposed supervisors are Carlota Canalias, Michael Fokine and Cecilia Williams.
