The KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position in Industrial Management and Economics. This PhD opportunity is part of the EU Horizon project CARES, which aims to enhance the security and resilience of food supply chains facing climate-related and geopolitical disruptions, including armed conflicts. The research will focus on identifying critical food supply chains and developing analytical models to support autonomous adaptation for continuous, resilient, and sustainable replenishment. Empirical data will be gathered and analyzed using a Swedish demonstrator, with active participation from industry and public stakeholders driving sustainable transformation of the food system.

Supervision will be provided by Associate Professor Luca Urciuoli. The position is based at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, a leading international technical university renowned for its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and high-quality research. Eligibility requirements include a second cycle degree (master's or equivalent), or at least 240 higher education credits with at least 60 at the second-cycle level. Special eligibility requires at least 60 credits at the second-cycle level in Industrial Economics and Management or directly relevant subjects. English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. Preferred qualifications include an MSc degree in industrial engineering and management or related fields (mechanical, transportation, logistics, management engineering, computer science, etc.), modelling/programming skills, and knowledge of statistical, optimization, and simulation software (e.g., Rstudio, Python, ILOG CPLEX, Anylogic). Familiarity with Agentic AI foundations (e.g., Langchain/LangGraph, AutoGen) is desirable. Previous work experience and strong personal skills are valued.
