About this position
This doctoral project at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is part of the third-cycle subject Industrial Economics and Management and focuses on the organizational implications of artificial intelligence. The project examines how AI-driven technologies are changing knowledge creation, task augmentation, business analytics, and the way organizations operate across public and private sectors.
The PhD student will investigate the challenges and opportunities created by AI adoption, including issues such as managerial uncertainty, unreliable outputs, low returns on investment, ethical dilemmas, and the broader transformation of industries. The research also highlights the emerging role of AI ecosystems, bringing together startups, intermediaries, Big Tech companies, and established enterprises in the move toward an AI-based economy.
The position is embedded in the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanity and Society (WASP-HS), a national Swedish research program that supports interdisciplinary research on AI and autonomous systems and their societal impact. The project is situated in a research environment that combines social science and humanities perspectives on AI with questions of innovation, organization, and responsible transformation.
Supervision is provided by Emrah Karakaya as main supervisor and Mats Engwall as co-supervisor.
