About this position

Chalmers University of Technology is advertising 2 doctoral positions in power electronics for wireless power transfer within the Division of Electric Power Engineering in Gothenburg, Sweden. The project is part of BiWPT, an EU-funded MSCA doctoral network focused on building the next generation of experts in bidirectional wireless power transfer for electric mobility and vehicle-grid integration.

The research is strongly oriented toward advanced converter technologies, high-frequency power electronics, control, and experimental validation. One direction targets the design, implementation, and control of compact and cost-effective wireless power transfer converters with robust bidirectional operation, including studies of topologies, materials, and components for high efficiency and scalability up to 500 kW. The other direction focuses on integration and deployment strategies for high-power WPT systems in heavy-duty vehicles, including system architecture, mechanical interfaces, digital-twin models, and sustainability/recyclability assessments.

The Division of Electric Power Engineering offers a research environment with broad expertise in electric power technology, extensive laboratory work, and close collaboration with external partners. Within the Electrical Machines and Power Electronics unit, the group works on electrical machines, traction inverters, high-frequency power electronics and charging, electric drive systems, and battery energy storage. The doctoral candidates will also take part in planned secondments, training, dissemination, and publication activities associated with the doctoral network.

Applicants should have strong knowledge of power electronics converters and vehicle chargers, as well as experience with Simulink, PLECS, and LT-Spice. Experience in prototyping and experimental testing is required, and knowledge of power systems, distribution systems, energy storage, and onboard drive systems is an advantage. The Mobility Rule applies: candidates must not have lived or carried out their main activity in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years before recruitment.

The appointment is a fixed-term doctoral employment of four years, with possible extension of up to one additional year depending on teaching duties. Doctoral students at Chalmers may serve as teaching assistants for up to 20% of working time and typically complete 45–60 credits of doctoral courses. The application deadline is 2026-10-01. Applications must be submitted online in English with a CV, personal letter, transcripts, and master’s thesis PDF.
