About this position
The Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) at the U.S. Department of Defense is offering a postgraduate fellowship in clinical systems and rehabilitation. The appointment is based at Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, and may also involve work at Walter Reed Hospital and the Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio, Texas.
This fellowship gives the participant hands-on experience in turning an early-stage project into a fielded system in a short time, with a strong emphasis on clinical systems analysis. Working under multiple mentors, the fellow will contribute to the development of a novel Clinical Assessment Management Portal (CAMP) and to the broader effort to improve how extremity trauma and amputation outcomes are tracked across care settings.
The project sits at the intersection of clinical practice and health-system design. The fellow will help define patient- and provider-facing system requirements, support the development of applications for patient assessment, contribute to the design of customized graphical user interfaces, and help ensure that outcome metrics are accurately integrated into the online database portal. The work also includes exploring how artificial intelligence can improve documentation, clinician adoption, and consistent use of outcome measures across the patient journey.
EACE’s clinical team focuses on clinical outcomes assessment, clinical practice guidelines, and treatment protocols for injured Service members and Veterans. The fellowship is part of this mission and is embedded in a collaborative government research and care environment with direct relevance to rehabilitation and trauma care.
