About this position
The University of Fribourg in Switzerland is offering a full-time, ERC-funded PhD position in the Department of Chemistry within Pascal Bertsch’s group and the ERC Starting Grant project GI-CORONA.
The doctoral researcher will formulate lipid-based colloids, including emulsions, liposomes and lipid nanoparticles, and investigate how these systems digest in the gut and which proteins form their gastrointestinal “biocorona.” The project aims to use this knowledge to design improved oral drug-delivery systems.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in food science, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering. Research experience in colloid science, analytical chemistry, lipid digestion or oral drug delivery is expected, together with good English proficiency. Experience with emulsions or liposomes, LC, proteomics, lipidomics, INFOGEST digestion or drug-release studies is beneficial but not essential.
The position is funded by the European Research Council under Horizon Europe and is scheduled to start on 1 January 2027. To apply, email a CV with two references and a short cover letter to Pascal Bertsch at [email protected] by 1 December 2026.
