About this position

This fully-funded PhD position is part of the European Union Doctoral Network StaDiVarious, hosted at Stockholm University in the Pamme Research Group. The project focuses on developing microfluidic electrometric devices to investigate adhesin-receptors and their variants, with a particular emphasis on the ESKAPE group of bacterial pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter spp). The overarching goal is to advance next-generation, strain-specific rapid diagnostics and contribute to the identification of new drug and vaccine targets. The Pamme Group specializes in designing microfluidic lab-on-a-chip devices for clinical diagnostics, biomedical research, environmental analysis, and smart material synthesis.

In this project, you will develop and integrate electroanalytical sensor devices with printed electronics to create bioelectroanalytical sensors. These sensors will be used to study cell adhesion and protein-protein interactions by immobilizing integrins and receptors on electrode surfaces and monitoring their interactions under precisely controlled microfluidic conditions. The research will leverage molecular binding elements such as whole cells, proteins, and aptamers, enabling the investigation of adhesion variance among different pathogens.

The position is part of a collaborative European doctoral training network, offering opportunities to work across institutions and disciplines. Applicants must meet both general and specific entry requirements for doctoral education at Stockholm University, including advanced coursework and research experience in analytical chemistry. The position is open to candidates worldwide, provided they have not resided in Sweden for more than 12 of the last 36 months prior to starting. The employment is fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of limited duties in education, research, or administration.

The application process requires a formal online submission via the StraDiVarious website, with all supporting documents provided by the deadline. For further information, applicants can consult the Pamme Group and Stockholm University websites, or contact the StraDiVarious team directly.

Stockholm University is committed to equality, diversity, and accessibility in its workplace.
