About this position

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is inviting applications for faculty positions in the Division of Biomedical Sciences (BioMed) at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor. This is a research-intensive opportunity in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, within a newly established division aiming to become a world-leading center for interdisciplinary biomedical research, graduate education, and innovation.

KAUST offers an exceptionally strong research environment for ambitious scholars. The institution emphasizes world-class infrastructure, advanced core facilities, substantial institutional support, generous baseline research funding, and internationally competitive compensation. The campus is highly international and designed to support both professional excellence and family well-being, making it attractive for researchers who thrive in collaborative, technology-rich settings.

BioMed welcomes outstanding applicants across the breadth of biomedical science and biomedical engineering, particularly those whose work crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries. Areas of interest include infectious diseases and host–pathogen biology, including surveillance and antimicrobial resistance; immunity and inflammation; human genetics and functional genomics; aging and regeneration; cancer biology; neuroscience and brain health; biomedical data science and AI; and programmable biomolecular systems and enabling platforms. The division is also especially interested in researchers who can build reusable capability at scale, such as methods, datasets, tools, or shared platforms that accelerate discovery across multiple laboratories.

Translation is a major theme of the call. Candidates who can articulate practical pathways to validate and implement research outcomes in clinical practice, public health, industry, or other applied settings are particularly encouraged. The successful appointee will be expected to build a globally visible and externally competitive research program, contribute to BioMed’s interdisciplinary culture, and participate in graduate teaching and mentoring.

Applicants should present a compelling record of originality, rigor, and international competitiveness, along with a clear 3–5 year research vision for KAUST. The position is open on a rolling basis until filled, so early application is advisable. Required materials include a cover letter noting the rank sought and fit with BioMed, a CV with full publication list, a research statement, a teaching/mentoring statement, contact information for 3–5 referees, and up to five representative publications.

Interested candidates should apply through the Interfolio application link provided in the posting. Additional information about KAUST and the Biomedical Sciences Division is available on the institution’s website.
