About this position
Brandeis University’s Departments of Politics and Computer Science are offering a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the intersection of generative AI and political science. The fellow will join an interdisciplinary environment designed to connect modern artificial intelligence methods with substantive research on politics, government, public policy, and political behavior.
The position is centered on applying existing AI technologies rigorously to political science questions rather than building new AI architectures. The fellow will work with political texts, public opinion, campaigns, policy documents, legislative activity, social media, political narratives, and other forms of political data, using methods such as machine learning, natural language processing, computational social science, and related data-analytic techniques.
In addition to an active research agenda aimed at peer-reviewed conference and journal publications, the fellow will contribute to teaching at the interface of AI and political science. The teaching component spans both political science and computer science audiences, with an emphasis on helping students apply AI methods while critically evaluating their validity, limitations, biases, and ethical implications.
The fellowship also emphasizes mentoring and collaboration with undergraduate and graduate students through supervised projects, data collection and annotation, research workshops, and the development of tools for analyzing and visualizing political data. It is intended to support an emerging scholar who can strengthen connections between political science and computer science while advancing socially responsible AI research in the study of politics.
