About this position

NTNU—Norwegian University of Science and Technology—is advertising four full-time PhD Candidate positions within the interdisciplinary STRIDE project: Synergizing Transport Resilience, Infrastructure and Defense in Extremes.

STRIDE develops a dynamic, multi-risk modeling framework to strengthen the resilience of Norway's transport infrastructure against converging climate-driven hazards, including severe floods and landslides, as well as geopolitical threats such as targeted sabotage. The project applies a “safe-to-fail” approach, emphasizing graceful degradation, continued critical transport functionality, and rapid recovery throughout the disaster management cycle.

The four available PhD projects are: impacts of interdependent multi-hazards on transport systems; machine learning for temporal and spatiotemporal data; optimization and decision support for resilient transport systems; and science and technology studies (STS).

Successful candidates will join a collaborative, cross-faculty research environment involving civil engineering, artificial intelligence, operations research, and science and technology studies. The positions are based at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, within the university's strategic A More Resilient Society initiative.

The application deadline is 20 November 2026. Applicants should review the individual position information and follow the relevant application instructions through the NTNU/Jobbnorge vacancy portal.
