About this position
Washington State University is seeking a fully funded MS or PhD graduate student to join the Structural Engineering research group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in Pullman, Washington, beginning in Summer/Fall 2027.
The research is part of a multi-year project on hybrid structural systems, with emphasis on timber-concrete composite (TCC) floors. The work will combine structural analytical modeling, finite element analysis, and full-scale experimental testing of TCC slabs at the Composite Materials and Engineering Center (CMEC). Relevant research interests include structural engineering, mass timber, timber-concrete composites, numerical simulation, Abaqus or Ansys, and experimental structural testing.
The position is fully funded and includes a stipend plus full coverage of tuition and fees. Applicants should have a strong background in structural engineering and analytical and numerical methods. Finite element analysis experience, preferably with Abaqus or Ansys, is expected, while experimental testing experience is highly desirable. International applicants should provide TOEFL or IELTS scores.
To apply, email one combined PDF containing a recent CV or resume, unofficial BS transcripts and MS transcripts if applicable, and an English translation of any non-English transcripts. In the email, identify the intended degree level, MS or PhD, and briefly explain your background and research interests. Applications are due by November 30, 2026. Send materials to [email protected] with the subject line “RA Application – Structural Engineering (TCC Project) – [Your Name].”
