About this position
The Polar Remote Sensing Research Group at McGill University is recruiting at least one MSc student and one PhD student for the Fall 2027 intake. The project focuses on radar remote sensing of Arctic sea ice using multi-frequency synthetic aperture radar (SAR).
Students will investigate Arctic sea-ice conditions through radar-based remote sensing, contributing to polar observation and the interpretation of multi-frequency SAR data. The work is based in Dr. Mallik Mahmud’s lab within the Polar Remote Sensing Research Group and is connected with graduate study in Geography.
The research environment combines polar remote sensing, radar technology, programming and Earth-system observation at McGill University. The group offers an opportunity to develop expertise in Arctic sea-ice monitoring and advanced remote-sensing methods through graduate research.
Funding details
Both the MSc and PhD positions are fully funded through awards, research assistantships and teaching assistantships.
