About this position
Fully funded PhD opportunity: The Net2Zero Centre for Doctoral Training is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated doctoral candidate for a four-year project on Advanced Microwave Technology Development for Activated Carbon Reactivation.
The research will develop advanced microwave-processing technologies to regenerate and reuse activated carbon used in water and air treatment. The project targets more energy-efficient and lower-carbon alternatives to conventional thermal regeneration, with applications involving taste and odour compounds, PFAS, and other emerging pollutants.
The successful PhD researcher will gain experience in advanced microwave process development, activated carbon regeneration, laboratory-scale experimentation, pilot-scale process development, scale-up, and industry-focused research and innovation. The project includes collaboration with Eleanor Binner and industry partner Andrew G. of Puragen.
Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Particle Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong research motivation, communication and teamwork skills, laboratory and safety awareness, and an interest in sustainable technologies and net-zero solutions are sought.
The position is fully funded for four years. The application deadline is 30 November 2026. Further information is available via the provided link.
