About this position
The University of Oulu is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate for a fully funded 3-year position in Embodied AI, focusing on non-invasive brain signal decoding for neural 3D human motion reconstruction and transfer using latent diffusion models. The project, "ThinkControl," is funded by InfoTech and runs from 2026 to 2028 at the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS), Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
The research will involve advanced human biosignal (EEG, EMG, fMRI) analysis, multimodal large language models, computer vision, 3D human modeling, and robotic control. The goal is to develop next-generation brain–machine interfaces by decoding EEG signals into continuous latent representations for fine-grained control of 3D human motion. The interdisciplinary team collaborates with neuroscience and clinical experts, including VR-based stroke rehabilitation, and offers opportunities for international research visits and conference participation.
Applicants must hold a recent Master's degree (within five years) in computer science or a related field, with strong motivation for high-quality, interdisciplinary research. Experience in AI, machine learning, computer vision, or related areas is required, along with excellent English communication skills. The position is supervised by Assistant Professor Haoyu Chen and postdoc researcher Delfin Tursin, both with extensive expertise in AI and biosignal processing.
The University of Oulu provides a supportive, international environment with access to top-tier computing resources (LUMI, Puhti, Mahti), wellness benefits, and career development opportunities. The starting salary is €2,600–€2,800 per month, with additional performance-based components. The application deadline is December 25, 2025. For more information and to apply, visit the official job posting or contact Assistant Professor Haoyu Chen at [email protected].
