About this position

Erasmus University Rotterdam’s Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) is seeking highly motivated PhD candidates in quantitative marketing. The fully funded and salaried position combines marketing science with machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, econometrics, economics, and consumer behavior.

Research may address AI methods for adaptive decision-making, experimentation, personalization, multi-armed bandits, reinforcement learning, agentic AI, consumer or firm learning, privacy constraints, and platform economics. Relevant platform topics include feedback and rating systems, design bias, informativeness, misinformation, and fake reviews. Students define their own projects in consultation with a supervisory team and may collaborate with multiple faculty members.

The PhD includes advanced coursework, research seminars, workshops, international conference participation, limited teaching, and opportunities for a funded 3- to 6-month research visit. Facilities include the Erasmus Behavioral Lab and high-performance computing through SURFSara. The programme emphasizes rigorous, open, and reproducible science, including preregistration, data sharing, version-controlled code, and publication in leading journals.

Applicants need a master’s degree, preferably a Research Master’s or MPhil, in computer science, data science, operations research, economics, econometrics, statistics, management, or marketing. Programming and end-to-end data science experience are desirable, particularly with R, Python, Julia, Scala, Java, or C++. Strong English communication, intellectual curiosity, independence, scientific integrity, and interest in real-world problems are expected.
