About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunities are available at the Smart Grid Power Systems Laboratory (SPS Lab), University of South Florida, starting in Fall 2026.

Admitted students will work on research in Electrical Engineering, especially power systems, smart grids, digital twins, control systems, power electronics, electrical machinery, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), operational technology (OT), data-driven modeling, and software development for electrical networks.

The lab highlights high-fidelity modeling, simulation, stability analysis, measurement-based data analytics, control hardware prototyping, and digital twin applications for modern power grids and power plants. The SPS Lab also emphasizes collaboration with utilities, industry, national laboratories, and universities.

Eligibility: applicants should hold an M.S. in Electrical Engineering or be expected to complete it before enrollment. Preferred experience includes power systems, control theory, hardware design, programming/software development, data analytics, problem solving, and strong communication skills.
