About this position
The Humanoid Robots Lab at the University of Bonn is recruiting three fully funded PhD students to join an internationally active robotics and AI research team in Bonn, Germany.
The advertised projects sit at the intersection of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computer Vision, Agricultural Robotics, Active Perception, Multi-Robot Systems, Mobile Manipulation, and Robot Learning. Research directions include: (1) vision-language model reasoning and robotic intervention in greenhouses, with 3D crop perception and safe actions such as inspection, leaf manipulation, and selective harvesting; (2) multi-robot active perception for large-scale crop mapping using UAVs, quadruped robots, and ground robots; and (3) uncertainty-aware active perception and mobile manipulation for cluttered and dynamic environments.
The positions are led by Professor Maren Bennewitz and are part of a strong robotics ecosystem connected to projects such as PhenoRob, Robotics Institute Germany, and the Lamarr Institute. The lab highlights access to advanced robotic platforms and research infrastructure, including humanoids, quadrupeds, mobile manipulators, UAVs, VR systems, motion-capture facilities, and high-performance computing resources.
Funding: fully funded positions at TV-L E13 (100%).
Eligibility highlights: completed Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field; strong research background in relevant robotics/AI topics; excellent programming skills; experience with real robotic systems and deep learning frameworks; very good English communication skills.
Application materials: one PDF under 8 MB containing CV, motivation letter (max 1 page), bachelor’s and master’s transcripts, thesis/paper links, programming and project experience, and contact information for two references.
