About this position

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is offering a funded PhD position in Robotics for Agriculture within the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department, specifically in the ISCAAS laboratory. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong background in robotics, particularly those with experience in agricultural applications. The research will focus on path planning, navigation, data collection, and analysis using unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in field crop environments. The position also involves hands-on agricultural fieldwork for data collection.

Applicants should have or be nearing completion of a Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, preferably with a thesis in a relevant area. Experience in robotics is required, and experience in agricultural robotics is a plus. Candidates should have completed relevant coursework and projects, and those with prior research publications in robotics are especially encouraged to apply. English language proficiency is required, with a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 22 in each section or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 in all sections.

Accepted candidates will receive funding through Teaching or Research Assistantships, which cover tuition fees and provide a monthly stipend. The ISCAAS lab at FAU is engaged in cutting-edge research in embedded and cyber-physical systems, intelligent systems, AI, computer vision, and more, with projects sponsored by agencies such as NSF, NASA, and USDA. FAU is ranked among the top 100 public schools in the United States and is located in Boca Raton, Florida, near Miami.

To apply, prospective students should send their CV and any supporting documents (such as published papers or completed projects) to Dr. Arslan Munir at [email protected]. Only applicants who meet the language requirements should apply. Due to the high volume of applications, only selected candidates will be contacted for interviews.
