About this position

Graduate School of the Social and Behavioural Sciences (GSBS) at the University of Konstanz is a structured doctoral programme bringing together researchers and doctoral candidates across six disciplines: economics, linguistics, political science and public administration, psychology, sociology and statistics.

The programme is designed for research on behaviour from both micro and macro perspectives. At the micro level, it focuses on determinants and processes that shape individual behaviour; at the macro level, it examines decision-making in collectives such as groups, markets, societies and political organisations.

GSBS offers an interdisciplinary environment with coursework, research seminars and colloquia, enabling doctoral candidates to work across disciplinary boundaries while developing their own doctorate to international standards. The school also includes two optional interdisciplinary specialisations: Decision Sciences and Inequality. The inequality specialisation is linked to the Cluster “The Politics of Inequality”, and the decision sciences specialisation connects to the earlier Graduate School of Decision Sciences and the university’s research priority on inequality and conflict.

The research environment emphasises synergies between fields and methods. The advert highlights shared interests in topics such as framing, culture and the emergence of institutions, as well as the use of statistical methods and data collection approaches. Doctoral candidates are part of a wider research setting that supports interdisciplinary exchange and advanced methodological training.

The programme is based at the University of Konstanz in Konstanz, Germany, with teaching in English and the option to write the thesis in German on application.

Funding details

No tuition fees mentioned; no stipend or funding information is provided in the advert.
