About this position

Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) in Wuhan, China, is seeking high-level talent for faculty and principal investigator positions in agricultural microbiology research. The university’s Agricultural Microbiology discipline is a national key discipline with a strong legacy, robust research platforms, and a focus on germplasm innovation, functional gene discovery, and novel microbial product development. The major agricultural microbiology research facility at HZAU aims to be a world-class hub for scientific research, talent cultivation, and industrial transformation.

Three main positions are open: Chief Scientist in Microbial Resources, Scientist in Precision Instrument Design and Manufacturing, and Scientist in Automation Control. The Chief Scientist will lead strategic planning, oversee microbial resource exploration, and facilitate commercialization of research outcomes. The Precision Instrument Design Scientist will develop high-end research instruments, while the Automation Control Scientist will design and optimize automation systems for large-scale microbiology experiments, integrating AI and digital technologies.

Applicants must have a PhD and be internationally recognized leaders with extensive experience in their respective fields. For the Chief Scientist role, experience in leading or participating in large-scale scientific facilities or microbial resource projects is required. For instrument and automation roles, at least 10 years of relevant experience, leadership in major projects, and a strong record of innovation and collaboration are essential. Priority is given to candidates with high-throughput exploration, commercialization, or market-oriented translation experience. A strong research profile and leadership potential are required.

Successful candidates will be appointed as professors or research fellows and incorporated into the university’s talent support system. The university offers a competitive salary, research funding, graduate student quotas, excellent working conditions, and additional startup funding and stipends for eligible candidates. Team-based employment and named faculty positions are possible, with further support from the university’s alumni foundation.

To apply, submit your resume to [email protected]. For more information, visit the Nature Careers job posting or the university’s recruitment page. The application deadline is November 16, 2026. For inquiries, contact Fan Binyao or Wu Fei at +86-27-87285113.
