About this position
IN-SIGHT PhD Programme 2026/2027 at the University of Dundee is a funded doctoral opportunity for students interested in discovery science, translational research, drug discovery, and human health impact.
The programme brings together laboratory-based PhD projects in areas such as cancer, neurological disease, metabolic disease, inflammatory disease, and infectious disease. Students will work with internationally recognised researchers and explore molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying disease while developing broader skills in health informatics, innovation, entrepreneurship, preclinical development, clinical trials, patient and public involvement, science communication, and leadership.
Unlike a traditional project-based PhD, students are recruited to the programme first and then complete two laboratory rotations in year one before choosing a PhD project and supervisor from participating Principal Investigators in the Faculties of Life Sciences and Health (Medicine).
Funding is provided through a Medical Research Council Doctoral Landscape Award and includes a UKRI-rate stipend of £21,805 per year for 2026/27, tuition fees, and research funding for project costs and conference attendance. Flexible/part-time study options and paid leave are also mentioned, with support available for students with long-term health conditions or disabilities.
Eligibility: applicants should hold, or be about to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject such as Biology, Biological/Biomedical Science, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines. Applications are open to all nationalities, though international awards are capped at 30%.
Deadline: Monday 30 November. Interviews are scheduled for January and February, with outcomes expected in mid-February.
