About this position
Join ABC Labs and KTH Royal Institute of Technology as an Industrial PhD Student in a pioneering project at the intersection of machine learning and life sciences. This opportunity is part of the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), a major initiative funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation to advance computational and data science capabilities in Sweden. As an Industrial PhD Student, you will be employed by ABC Labs and pursue your doctoral studies at KTH, working under the academic supervision of Dr. Wei Ouyang (AICell Lab).
The project focuses on developing foundational models of human biology using large-scale, multimodal health data. You will have access to one of the most comprehensive longitudinal datasets available, including medical records, lifestyle data, and biological samples such as genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. Your research will involve training large-scale machine learning models, exploring self-supervised and representation learning approaches, and collaborating with domain experts in biology, medicine, and data science. The goal is to advance preventive and personalized healthcare through innovative, data-driven methods.
As part of the DDLS Research School, you will join a vibrant community of over 260 PhD students and 200 postdocs, contributing to four strategic research areas: cell and molecular biology, evolution and biodiversity, precision medicine and diagnostics, and epidemiology and biology of infection. The program offers access to modern GPU compute infrastructure, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a highly supportive environment for cutting-edge research.
Applicants should have a strong background in machine learning, solid programming and engineering skills, and be comfortable with modern development tools and practices. Experience in bioinformatics or biology and working with biological or medical data is highly valued. The program welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds and is committed to building an inclusive workplace.
Funding is provided through the DDLS program, with employment at ABC Labs and PhD admission at KTH. The application deadline is December 31, 2026. For more information about the DDLS Research School, visit the program website. To apply, submit your application via the SciLifeLab career portal using the provided link.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of data-driven life science and make a real-world impact in healthcare and biology.
