About this position
A fully paid legal PhD position.
Topic: The Digital Services Act (DSA), hate speech, takedown requests, trusted flaggers.
It’s an interdisciplinary project, with Delft University, Savvas Zannettou & Carlos Hernandez-Gañan , among the partners.
Computer scientists at Delft aim to develop software to detect hate speech on online platforms. ‘Trusted flaggers’ can do large-scale takedown requests under the DSA. Platforms must, in principle, comply with requests from trusted flaggers. Trusted flaggers could use such software - but probably have to check flagged content manually.
Many exciting open legal questions, for instance on the interpretation of the DSA provisions on trusted flaggers, the division of responsibility between trusted flaggers and online platforms, the role of trusted flaggers in situations where they are not mandated, and the potential role of AI.
