The Turfgrass Science Lab at Oklahoma State University, under the leadership of Dr. Mingying Xiang, is recruiting one MS student and one PhD student to begin in Summer 2026. The research assistantships focus on Bluemuda irrigation management, spring dead spot incidence under water-conservation strategies, and freeze tolerance of warm-season turfgrasses. Students will use integrated field, greenhouse, and plant physiology approaches to address key challenges in turfgrass science and agronomy.

Research topics include year-round performance of Bluemuda (bermudagrass + Kentucky bluegrass) systems, turfgrass water-use efficiency under deficit irrigation, effects of water-management practices on spring dead spot disease incidence, and freeze tolerance and spring recovery of bermudagrass. The lab offers a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional development and travel to major conferences such as ASA-CSSA-SSSA.

Applicants should have a B.S. (for M.S.) or M.S. (for Ph.D.) in turfgrass, agronomy, or a related field, with a strong interest in turf management, plant physiology, and water conservation. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are required, and research experience is preferred.
