About this position

Multiple Fully Funded PhD Positions are available for Fall 2026 in the Smart Grid Power Systems (SPS) Lab at the University of South Florida.

The lab, led by Prof. Lingling Fan, is recruiting outstanding PhD students interested in modern power systems and inverter-based resources. Research topics include power system modeling, simulation, stability analysis, data-driven modeling, analytics, software tool development, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, control prototyping, and digital twin applications.

Applicants should have an M.S. in Electrical Engineering completed or expected before enrollment. A background in power systems, controls, hardware, and/or programming is preferred, along with strong analytical and communication skills. The post also highlights solid foundations in power systems and control theory, programming/software development experience, and the ability to clearly interpret and present technical results.

The positions are described as fully funded. The announcement mentions world-class research facilities, strong industry collaborations, and excellent career development opportunities, but does not specify a stipend amount.

To apply, candidates should use the USF ECE application process and email Lingling Fan with a CV, transcript, and supporting research materials such as publications, project reports, software repositories, technical portfolios, or presentations.

Application window: Fall 2026.
