About this position
This research opportunity at the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory focuses on multisensory integration and perception within the Human Research and Engineering Directorate (HRED). The project invites an Associate to join a multidisciplinary team investigating how humans combine information from the brain, body, behavior, and environment to support sensory-perceptual-motor decision-making.
The research combines experimental human-subjects work with theoretical and computational modeling. On the experimental side, the Associate will help develop and use novel technology platforms to examine new sensor combinations and real-world multisensory interactions. On the modeling side, the work emphasizes cybernetic, systems control theory, and dynamical-systems perspectives, especially nonlinear, adaptive, and other system-level models of multisensory integration.
The position sits within ARL’s broader effort to advance understanding of human performance in dynamic environments and to support human-autonomy teaming for future Army systems. The team works across domains including cognitive neuroscience, electrical engineering, computer science, applied physics, and mathematics, creating a highly collaborative environment for researchers with quantitative and computational strengths.
The selected Associate will contribute to studies that test model predictions, integrate multi-aspect data, and support the development, simulation, and evaluation of closed-loop systems. The role is well suited to researchers interested in human multisensory processing, biosignal analysis, measurement systems, and the connection between perception and performance in realistic operational settings.
