About this position

Linköping University is recruiting for PhD student and postdoctoral researcher positions in electrocatalysis for sustainable energy conversion.

The research is centered in the Lizhou Fan group at the Division of Materials Design, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Linköping University. The project covers CO2 conversion, water splitting, biomass-derived molecule upgrading, and other small-molecule transformations, with a strong emphasis on linking catalyst structure, reaction mechanism, and device performance.

Research topics include catalyst design, catalyst synthesis, materials characterization, operando spectroscopy (such as Raman, FTIR, and XAS), mechanistic investigation, and electrolyzer/reactor system optimization. The group works in an interdisciplinary environment with collaborations in sustainable energy conversion and applied electrochemistry.

Postdoc eligibility: a doctoral degree or equivalent in chemistry, materials science, or a related field is required. Strong experience in electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, materials chemistry, or related areas is expected. Experience with operando spectroscopy, advanced electrochemical measurements, electrolyzer design, mechanistic studies, or supervision is advantageous.

PhD eligibility: a Master’s degree in chemistry or materials, or equivalent coursework/knowledge, is required. A background in electrochemistry, electrocatalysis, catalyst synthesis, surface/interface science, reactor design, or operando spectroscopy is meritorious.

Funding/employment: the postdoc is a full-time temporary position for two years with possible extension up to three years. The PhD position is normally four years full-time equivalent, with possible extension up to five years depending on teaching and departmental duties. Salary is individually set for the postdoc and follows local progression for PhD students.

Deadline: 3 June 2026.

Apply through the university vacancy pages and submit the required documents before the deadline.
