About this position

Exciting research opportunities are available in geology at Géosciences Environnement Toulouse (GET), part of Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France. The post highlights three openings: a PhD in Geology Numerical Modelling, a PostDoc in Geology Numerical Modelling, and a PhD in Geology focused on mineral systems at the sedimentary basin scale.

The PhD project on numerical modelling is embedded in the PEPR “sous-sol, bien commun” project IDYLLE (Impact of Lithosphere Dynamics and Basin Evolution on the Exploration of Energy Resources and Geological Potential). The research addresses lithosphere-scale processes, heat and fluid transfer, crustal deformation, sedimentary basin evolution, and the thermal evolution of the Aquitaine Basin and surrounding regions. Methods include thermo-mechanical modelling, surface process modelling, and 3D sedimentary basin modelling.

Supervision for the PhD includes Delphine Rouby (Géosciences Environnement Toulouse) and Ritske Huismans (University of Bergen), with collaboration from Eric Lasseur (BRGM) and Cécile Robin (Géosciences Rennes). The project is linked to a multidisciplinary research environment involving CNRS, IRD, Toulouse 3 University, CNES, and the Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées.

The PhD offer is a 36-month contract with a gross monthly salary of 2300 €. Additional benefits mentioned include annual leave, RTT, remote working practice, and transport support. The application deadline for the PhD numerical modelling position is 16 June 2026. The poster also lists a postdoctoral opening in the same research area and a second PhD position in geology on mineral systems, with a deadline of 15 June 2026.

Applicants are asked to submit a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, transcripts and diplomas, two referees’ contact details, relevant certificates/references, proof of English proficiency if required, and the master’s thesis. The postdoctoral role is also advertised in the same geoscience research environment, making this a strong opportunity for candidates interested in geology, numerical modelling, sedimentary basins, mineral systems, and Earth science research in France.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
