About this position
Professor Huayan Yang’s Chiral Nanomaterials Group at the Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is recruiting PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in China.
The group works at the intersection of chemistry, materials science and nanotechnology, with research spanning atomically precise metal nanoclusters, chiral inorganic nanoparticles and functional nanomaterials. Projects include synthesis and structural determination of Au, Ag, Cu and Pd nanoclusters using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, ligand engineering, SAXS and SANS studies, cluster photophysics, circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence.
Additional research directions include the origins of nanoparticle chirality, enantioselective and asymmetric catalysis, electrocatalysis including CO2 reduction, chiral sensing, multiplexed bioassays and chiral drug separation. The group is also developing data- and AI-assisted nanochemistry and welcomes candidates interested in computational or machine-learning methods.
Applicants should submit one PDF containing a CV and complete publication list, a one-page statement describing previous work and proposed interests, academic transcripts for PhD applications or a PhD certificate for postdoctoral applications, contact details for two to three referees, and up to three representative papers. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed online. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The deadline for the 2027 PhD intake is still to be confirmed.
