About this position

Ghent University, one of Belgium’s leading research institutions, is offering a PhD assistant position in the Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in pursuing academic research and teaching in the field of management accounting and control.

At least 50% of the assignment will be dedicated to academic research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation, focusing on management accounting and control. The successful candidate will also assist with teaching activities (in Dutch) and contribute to internal and external departmental services. The role is designed to foster both research and teaching skills, providing a comprehensive academic experience.

Applicants must hold, or expect to hold by the start date, a Master’s degree in Economics, Business Economics, Business Engineering, Business Administration, Complementary Studies in Business Economics, or an equivalent qualification. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent teaching and communication skills, with the ability to present in Dutch. Teaching experience or participation in extra training and conferences is recommended. For foreign diplomas in languages other than Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation must be provided.

The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal twice for two years each, contingent on positive evaluations. The maximum term of appointment is six years, in accordance with the Codex of Higher Education. The position offers remuneration according to salary scale AAP3, along with a range of benefits including 36 days of paid leave, training and education opportunities, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and more.
