About this position
PhD Candidate in Resilient Service Continuity Across Mobile Networks at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Department of Information Security and Communication Technology, Trondheim, Norway.
This fully funded PhD position focuses on mobile networks, network resilience, service continuity, and experimental systems research for critical services in emergency response, industry, transport, and maritime operations. The project examines how independently operated mobile networks can coordinate resources, priorities, traffic steering, admission control, and recovery mechanisms to keep services running during failures, congestion, and overload cascades. Research may involve commercial and open-source mobile network deployments, the Beyond 5G lab, simulation, and analytical modeling.
Applicants should have a relevant master’s degree in communication networks, wireless and mobile communications, information security, distributed systems, or a closely related area. A major independent project equivalent to a master’s thesis (minimum 30 ECTS) is required. Strong academic performance is expected, normally B or better on the master’s degree, with possible consideration for exceptional candidates with relevant experience or publications. Excellent English communication skills are required. Preferred backgrounds include 5G radio access/core deployments, multi-vendor or softwarized networks, resilience/dependability topics, and teaching experience; Scandinavian language skills are a plus.
