About this position
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is offering a PhD candidate position focused on high temperature material science. The project is rooted in materials science and process metallurgy and is aimed at developing knowledge relevant to Mn-alloy production, with a particular focus on optimizing the control and handling of off-gases to improve energy efficiency and support future carbon capture technologies.
The candidate will be part of a research environment of about 20 PhD candidates and postdocs, and will work closely with external research and industrial partners, including SINTEF and the Norwegian Mn-ferroalloy industry. The work is described as experimental and will combine literature review, journal paper writing, and the final PhD thesis, giving the candidate practical research experience in a topic connected to industrial high-temperature processing and greener materials production.
The position is supervised by Prof. Gabriella Tranell. The department highlights its strong role in materials engineering, materials chemistry, and materials science, and emphasizes collaboration with business and industry to develop innovative materials and new manufacturing processes. The position is based at NTNU’s Campus Gløshaugen in Trondheim.
The post is a fixed-term PhD appointment connected to the department’s research activity in high-temperature metallurgical processes and industrial emissions handling.
