About this position
PhD fellowship at the University of Copenhagen in the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), working in the Sakamoto Group on metabolic control, glucose utilization, and glucose homeostasis.
The project investigates how glucose phosphorylation by hexokinase 2 and its allosteric negative feedback regulation control skeletal muscle glucose flux and whole-body glucose homeostasis under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. The work combines biochemistry, cell signaling, metabolomics, structure-guided mutagenesis, cell-free and cell-based assays, and in vivo preclinical studies in genetic mouse models.
The position is a 3-year PhD fellowship starting November 15, 2026 or by agreement. The post is based at CBMR, Maersk Tower, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen, in an international and collaborative research environment focused on cardiometabolic health.
Eligibility highlights include a relevant master’s degree in biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, or molecular biomedicine (or equivalent), hands-on experience with cell culture, biochemical/metabolic analysis, cell signaling, and in vivo preclinical/metabolic phenotyping, plus strong English communication skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
To apply, submit the required documents through the university portal: a motivated letter, CV, certified diploma and transcript, and publication list if available. Deadline: August 10, 2026, 23:59 CET.
