About this position
Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantship at the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, University of Wyoming, in partnership with the Ricketts Conservation Fund and the WYOBIRD initiative.
The project is based in Laramie, Wyoming, USA, with field work in western Wyoming. The research will examine how the demography of forest songbirds in the southern Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem varies across habitat treatments such as prescribed fire, wildfire, and thinning.
Students will work in the Chalfoun lab and the campus-wide doctoral Program in Ecology and Evolution, using existing IMBCR survey and MAPS netting data alongside ongoing fieldwork. Responsibilities include bird surveys, netting and banding, nest searching and monitoring, and habitat measurements.
Minimum requirements include a B.S. or B.A. in wildlife biology, biology, ecology, or a related field; relevant field research experience; GPA of at least 3.0; a valid driver’s license; ability to hike in steep and varied terrain; and a strong interest in avian ecology and wildlife conservation. The post also emphasizes inclusive teamwork, respectful communication, and dissemination of results through publications and conference presentations.
Highly desirable qualifications include an M.S. degree, quantitative/statistical skills, publication experience, bird capture/handling/banding experience, and strong writing skills.
